Hannah bean

We call her Hannah bean. She went to my office a few weeks ago and kept pointing at her pictures and telling me, "There is my Hannah Bean right there." It was really funny. Hannah is 2 now (and has been for over a month) I have been meaning to write her birth story for a while now and here it is...

At our 20 week ultra sound they found that I had complete placenta previa, which is when the placenta is under the baby blocking her way out. They scheduled another ultra sound for later in the pregnancy to chek again. They also moved my due date up a week because the measurements. At the second ultrasound they found that the placenta had moved to the correct place. They moved my due date up yet another week because the measurements were really big. This ultrasound was as 32 weeks and the doctor said that if I carried her to term she would be over 10 pounds. Everything was going fine and I was dialated and efaced, so the doctor gave us the option to induce 7 days before my newest due date. A friend of mine had just had a baby in her car on the freeway so we decided a sceduled birth would be great for us.

We were scheduled for a Thursday night and we went to the hospital around 9. The plan was to start the pitocin and then let it run throught the night. We got all hooked up and ready to go and started the pitocin. John promptly fell asleep. I watched the monitor for a while and then just sat and waited. They say you can sleep but I sure couldn't. My nurse wasn't real swift and couldn't get the monitor to stay in the right place. I guess that is why she just ignored me for 2 hours when my iv came out. I noticed that the contractions had stopped (on the monitor) and wondered why, but I haven't ever done this before so I didn't call her in. I had asked her already about my iv and she didn't seem to think it was a problem. Finally after I hadn't had a contraction for 2 hours she came in to see why and I showed her my iv. She said "oh yeah" and shoved it back into my vein. The contractions started right back up and she left again.

At about 6 in the morning my doctor came in to check me and break my water. Up until this point I had no pain, I could tell the contractions were happening because I saw it on the monitor, but I could barely feel them. As soon as my water broke I started having awful contractions in my back. I called for the epidural right away. The rest of the day was a blur of dehydration migraines and throwing up. They don't let you drink anything with an epidural so I ended up with several bags of fluid going in very quickly. I had a student nurse tagging along with my daytime nurse so that was interesting conversation. The nurse did tell me several times that if this was my second baby I would have already had it. I am still not sure how that applied to my situation but she really wanted me to know.

I started pusing at about 5:30 friday night and right away my epidural machine got knocked on the floor and broke into a million small pieces. That meant no more medicine for me. I had her at about 6:30 and she was perfect. She weighed 7 lbs 13 oz and she was 19 inches long. She had perfect skin, not too much hair, and didn't cry for very long.

Two years later she is still perfect.

Mostly when she is like this:

She talks constantly and can say anything. She talks in full sentances and uses mostly correct grammar. She still says "hers not nice" but it makes namma happy to know she answers questions with yes or no, she doesn't say yeah. Her favorite sayings are "You go time out Jaxey!" to the cat that hates her "I want to go first" when going anywhere" Wait for me, just a minute" when you tell her to stop pulling the toilet paper off the roll, and "Want to watch a movie" when Curious Geroge isn't on. My favorites are "Want to watch Move it, Move it" when she wants to watch Madagascar, "Daddy, I need some money" "Mommy drive carefully" when we are leaving for work in the morning or "I love you mommy, love you so much"

She knows her alphabet and can count to 12. She knows more songs than I do, my current favorite is Princess Pat, it is so funny to hear her say rigabamboo. She has most of her books memorized and sometimes will sit and "read" them to herself with the right words. She is facsinated with animals and fish and can name them all. Her favorites are monkeys and any kind of fish. She will eat anything. She doesn't like mint kisses or raw onions but those are the only things we have found so far. Her favorite foods are probably broccoli, bananas and tomatoes. She doesn't like her food to touch or to have peels on her fruit, but at least she will eat everything. She also LOVES cinnamon bears.

She loves to be outside in the snow or rain or sunshine. She is learning to ride her tricycle. She loves to play catch, although for her its more like fetch. She can't catch the ball but she loves to go get it and throw it back.

She adores the Utes and can sing the entire fight song. She picks "I am a Utah man sir" to sing before bed every night. If she see's anyone playing football she yells "Utah Man" She can also put in a "Hey Punter" at the correct time in the game. All birds are Swoop, and everyone must have a Utah man on their car.

She is mostly potty trained. She will tell us when she has to go and wakes up at night to go. We still have accidents sometimes while playing, but its only about 2 a week. She is not going potty in this picture she is just playing with her old toys that we are gathering to give away. She is not wearing pants, but she has socks on...

Sometimes she acts so old it's scary. She has certainly figured out how to be in charge at our house.
